Global mobility and urban services platform, inDrive is strengthening its presence in Southeast Asia, particularly in Malaysia, with ambitious growth plans and community-focused initiatives.
As Southeast Asia’s ride-hailing market is expected to reach USD 8.87 billion by 2024 and expand at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR 2024-2029) of 5.39% by 2029, inDrive is positioning itself as a key player in the region.
The Malaysian market, specifically, is set to grow at a CAGR of 3.5% from 2024 to 2029, reaching a projected market volume of USD 0.57 billion (estimated RM 2.48 billion) by 2029. The number of users in the Malaysian ride-hailing market is expected to grow significantly, reaching 11.47 million by 2029, with user penetration increasing from 28.1% in 2024 to 31.5% by 2029.
Since entering the Malaysian market, inDrive has rapidly expanded its footprint to urban agglomeration and major cities: Klang Valley, Penang, and Johor Bahru. The company has achieved impressive milestones, with a 20% increase in rides and a 21% surge in active users during the first half of 2024.
The number of active drivers is also expected to increase by 23%, reflecting the rising demand for inDrive’s unique ride-hailing services in Malaysia.
“The Malaysian market is one of our key growth areas in Southeast Asia, and we are committed to delivering innovative, community-focused mobility solutions that resonate with local needs,” said Natalia Makarenko, Marketing Director APAC, inDrive.
“Our goal is to not only provide a better ride-hailing experience but also to be a meaningful part of the communities we serve through sustainable practices and impactful initiatives.”
inDrive sets itself apart in the highly competitive ride-hailing landscape by allowing passengers and drivers to negotiate fares directly, offering a level of flexibility and fairness not commonly found in traditional pricing models.
Beyond ride-hailing, inDrive offers a range of mobility solutions, including intercity transportation and “inDrive Services”, a platform for users to source for specialists from household assistance to pet services, catering to the diverse needs of the Malaysian market.
To support its growth and enhance its offerings, inDrive’s future plans focus on improving the overall driver experience, including the introduction of enhanced benefits such as insurance coverage, loyalty programs, and training support.
Additionally, inDrive plans to expand driver support centers to key cities like Penang and Johor Bahru and is exploring the potential launch of an Electric Vehicle (EV) fleet to promote sustainable and innovative mobility solutions. These initiatives align with the company’s broader strategy to capitalize on Southeast Asia’s growth trajectory and deliver value-driven services to its users.
Alongside these expansion efforts, inDrive remains dedicated to making a positive impact on local communities through its charitable arm, inVision, with the goal to positively impact the lives of over 1 billion people by 2030. Initiatives such as the Aurora Tech Award, which supports women founders of tech startups, and the Alternativa Film Project, which supports filmmakers whose work has potential to bring social change, exemplify inDrive’s commitment to fostering social good and driving technological and entrepreneurial innovation.
inDrive is committed to building a more equitable and inclusive mobility landscape by continuously innovating and engaging with local communities. As it grows in Malaysia and across Southeast Asia, inDrive remains focused on creating meaningful connections, supporting local needs, and driving positive change through thoughtful initiatives and sustainable practices.
