Cradle Brings First-of-its-Kind iOS Developer Academy to Malaysia Through MoU With CHN

Cradle Fund Sdn. Bhd. (Cradle), an agency under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) mandated to support the startup ecosystem in Malaysia, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Complete Human Network (CHN) as part of MYStartup’s vision to prepare startups for scale and growth.

This collaboration will be the starting point for MYStartup to offer a developer-focused initiative, and to provide affordable hardware and iOS certification under the iOS Developer Academy to the local developer community.

MYStartup – an initiative by MOSTI and Cradle, ensures that startups are thoroughly guided and supported – will see the iOS Developer Academy through as it offers tailored products for developers in its startup community.

This first-of-its-kind Academy will provide an avenue for aspiring entrepreneurs and developers to learn about new technologies, tools, and frameworks to build innovative and platform-differentiating apps using the thriving Apple iOS connection network. It is part of MYStartup’s vision to nurture and support Malaysian tech startups in creating and developing innovative apps to set them up for success in the booming digital economy.

As part of the programme, seminars from foundation courses to more intensive courses will be regularly organised for the local startup community. Through this initiative, MYStartup aims to produce 10,000 coders and developers by 2030.

The community will not only have the chance to learn about the big picture of app development but will also go in-depth in more technical details such as the correlation between design, user experience, user adoption, and connect both themes to explore how they could ultimately leverage any underlying platform when developing apps.

The curriculum aims to bring hands-on learning opportunities and close collaboration with mentors throughout the programme, encouraging entrepreneurs to design inclusively and to make a positive impact in the world.

To support the growth of the startups, both CHN and MYStartup will be adding value by subsidising hardware and software solutions for these startups to help them power their best work everywhere.

“We’re pleased to announce the partnership between Cradle and Complete Human Network in kickstarting MYStartup’s vision to bring the iOS Developer Academy to Malaysia. We hope that through this collaboration, we’ll be able to provide a solid foundation in app development for the MYStartup community. The Academy isn’t merely about learning the basics of app-building, but instead, is about breaking barriers and encouraging entrepreneurs to step out of their comfort zone, and to take a leap forward in their startup careers”, said Norman Matthieu Vanhaecke, Acting Group CEO, Cradle.

Talking about the collaboration and its benefit to Malaysian startups, Teh Chai Peng, Founder and CEO of Complete Human Network Sdn. Bhd. said that CHN is thrilled to collaborate with Cradle to kickstart the iOS Developer Academy.

“This is an important part of our plan to inspire, build and support Malaysia’s future leaders, developers, and entrepreneurs. We can’t wait to see how startups will benefit from this, using their creativity and development skills to build new businesses and create apps that transform the world. With this academy, Malaysia is well positioned as the Asia Pacific and global hub to build iOS talents!”, he added.

Witnessed by Apple Inc., the official signing of the MOU took place today at The Grand Hyatt in Kuala Lumpur as the main highlight of an event co-organised by Cradle and CHN with the theme ‘Building Great Business Apps with Mac’.

The event included seminars on the latest app development strategies with guest speakers from Apple Inc speaking extensively on the business value of apps. Attendees were able to gain understandings of the latest features and technologies for building high-performing apps, and to learn from industry experts about the business considerations when choosing a development approach.

The event also featured a half-day seminar by Apple executives on how developers can use and leverage on Apple’s software to accelerate the growth of their startups in an ever-evolving industry.

The day concluded with an insightful Fireside Chat moderated by Freda Liu, where two local tech startups with high growth – Alex Tang, Tech Lead of ZUS Coffee and WH Swee, CEO and iOS Lead of NewsWav, shared their iOS development journey that helped them scale their companies to what it is today.

This MOU marks a key milestone as it signifies the establishment of the iOS Developer Academy Programme kicking off in 2023 where Malaysian startups will have greater access to developer courses and information from around the world.

Through this collaboration with CHN, Cradle hopes to empower Malaysian startups with a comprehensive preparation and strong fundamentals, so that they can continue to expand in the app space moving forward.
